Cover Drafty Spots
The first thing and one of the easiest things that you can do is to cover up drafty spots. Remember that there are many areas in your home that may be letting drafts in that you aren’t even aware of. For example, in addition to holes in exterior walls, you might be getting air in your home through electrical sockets, insufficient weather stripping around windows and doors, and your chimney.
Use Portable Heating
When saving on your heating is your goal, there may be room in your home for portable heaters. If you have a smaller home or need to heat just a small space at a time, then a portable heater can be a good solution.
Use Plastic Film on Windows
One thing that you can do in conjunction with a proper heating system is to install plastic film on your windows. There are some different ways to do this: you can do it yourself, shop for the films at a store, or talk to a commercial heating contractor.
Install More Insulation
There is likely a lot of hot air escaping from your attic. Making sure that you have sufficient insulation in your walls and particularly in your attic where it is easier to supplement with more insulation is an easy thing to do. Installing new insulation in the wall might be a little more difficult and more costly, but putting more in the attic can be a great solution.
Install a Programmable Thermostat
Installing a programmable thermostat so that you can basically set it and forget it is a great way to save energy and money on your Denver heating needs. Even decreasing your thermostat two degrees can save a lot of money, and you probably won’t even be able to tell a difference in temperature.
